Long Range Riflescope

I am getting ready to put together a rifle for long range shooting. The rifle will be somewhat general purpose, but I want to be able to compete in our local 1000 yard matches (if I could ever get off work to do it).
The first thing I am going to buy is the scope.
At present, I am thinking of getting a LEUPOLD MARK 4, 8.5X-25X 50MM LR M1 MATTE from Premier Reticle with their Gen 2 Mil-Dots.

I would appreciate any comments pro or con along with any suggestions.

Obviously, one of the reasons for this scope from Premier is that the mil dots are in the 1st focal plane.

The old B&L 10X40 model 4000 mil dot scope had 120+ moa in both axis. Those are (were) $1k scopes. (don't confuse that the the new and much cheaper model 3200). Also look at the Nightforce NXS models.

US Optics makes specialized external adjusted scopes with over 200 MOA of vertical adjust but they're wickedly expensive.

For a moderately priced scope the Tasco 10x "Super Sniper" scope has about 120 moa of vertical and horizontal adjustment. Not a bad scope for $300.
