Loads for s&w model 14 38 spl. ???

I finally found a good one . It is a 14-4 with the 6 in. bbl. and am just starting to work up some loads . I am hoping to find some good dual purpose loads as I dont much fancy full wadcutters although they seem to be the rave for accuracy when punching holes in paper. I did find a lone cannister of Bullseye yesterday and have HS-6, HP38, clays, international clays, unique, 2400, 231, tightgroup and faster powders more for magnum applications. I have a mould that drops 145gr. SWCTC boolits and some precast 158gr. RNFP boolits too plus an assortment of some jacketed bullets from 125 to 158 grs. Oh yeah, I have some Trailboss too that interests me a lot. Would love to hear form you and swap recepies and test results.

I've had very good results for a S&W m-10 with a 6" barrel using 3.6gr of Bullseye or 4.2 - 4.4gr of W-231 and F-100 primers with either 158gr LSWC or LRNFP.

I'm rather attached to using a 158gr SWC or RNFP over 4.0gr Titegroup. One of my favorite powders and it meters much better than Unique in anything under 6.0gr.

Several of the powders you have on hand are listed in Speer #14. I also recently found a good K-frame, a 4" 64. Speer got good results with Power Pistol, and so did I. Shooting Speer swaged 158 gr. SWCHP, I got a consistent 800 fps with 5 gr, 940 with 5.8 gr. Speer's loads range from 4.8 to 6.0; anything over 5.4 is +P. They shot a 6" 14, and got a bit better velocity than me. Other loads for 158's:
231 3.8 - 4.3 - 4.7 (min - max std - max +P)
Unique 4.0 - 4.7 - 5.2
HS-6 NA - 6.3 - 6.7
Gut schuss!

The load I'm currently using with decent success in a model 10-7, 4-inch tapered barrel and fixed sights is a Dardas 158gr LSWC pushed by 5.3gr Alliant Power Pistol.

38 spl. loads for mod.14

A warm, but unusually accurate load in my mod. 14 is: Win nickel case, wsp primer, 5.0/Unique, with a Lee hard cast 140 gr. lswctc. Good luck! USMC Vet
