Looking for suggestions/opinions on starting loads for my savage mod. 12 in 22-250- would love to hear what people have had the most success with-looking for a coyote round for up to 200 yrds.
Thanks in advance!!

It would be helpful to know what rate of twist is in your Sav.Mdl 12.Savage has played with several twist rates in their .224 cal rifles. If it is the standard 1:14 a 55gr bullet will be heaviest bullet that will stabilize.I have had good results with 55gr V-Max and Varget @ 3200-3400fps.Accurate out to 400M.

you had to ask that-right? :)
I seem to recall a 1:12 twist-but you have me second guessing myself now-I bought the gun new early in '05- if that helps

Try these:
1) Federal brass, CCI 250, 37.0 of H380, Nosler 55 grain BT
2) same brass, CCI 200, 39.5 of WW760, same bullet or Sierra 55 grain BTHP
3) same brass, CCI 200, 34.5 of H4895, Speer 52 grain original HP
4) same brass, CCI 250, 38.0 of H380, Speer 52 grain HP
5) WW brass, CCI 200, 35.0 of IMR 4320, Nosler or Sierra 55 grain BTSP

All should be considered maximum loads; work up. Check the Hodgdon #25 and #26, and the WW #14 booklet.

37.0gr of IMR4064 behind a 50gr VMAX is my current best load. That's a max powder charge with a fire formed case. I love Hornady.

35 grains of 4064 with CCI 200 primer and 55 grain Hornady spire point. My Savage shoots these loads better than anything else I have found. 3650 fps and less than moa. Bullets are cheap and if you look at the trajectory site (JBM) the difference between these and the higher priced bullets is not worth the price.
