Leave them alone and you end up working!!!

So yesterday we had a LONG meeting with the forester on our place, a meeting which Louann bailed on after about a hour. When I get back to the camp from having rode and looked at a bunch of trees with him I find the note below on the floor.

Seeing that she was occupied I gathered up the chainsaw and went to cut a couple of swamp cabbages to have later in the week. As I was trimming them up about a hour later ( 4:30 ) I hear her rifle go off.

Now our cell service is about useless where we are in the woods so I get in the truck and go looking for her buggy. Once I find it I start tracking her into the woods, actually a double bedded field of 2 year old pines with a LOT of standing water that borders on a thick swamp.

Get a few hundred yards into the trees and start yelling. Nothing. So I go further and yell again. This time she responds and another 300 yards or so out I finally can tell where she is exactly.

Have to push through into the swamp because that is where the hog ran to when she shot it after having stalked it in the thick grass for what she said was over 30 minutes trying for a shot.

She's got it gutted when I get there. Something I did not complain about!

She'd gutted it after getting no response to her texts and deciding that simply waiting until I decided to look for her, which she knew would be after dark, was not a good plan. In fact she'd gutted it and had drug it about 30 feet and was in the process of cutting the head off to reduce the weight when she finally heard me yelling.

As you can see the woods here are wet with 12 to 24 inches standing in the rows between the tree beds in some places. Which of course means we were soaked by the time we got it to the road.

She did help skin and bone it......for a little while until offering to cook something for dinner, which sounded like a fair trade.

Anyway......fresh pork gets fried at the fishmarket Thursday morning for breakfast.

The last picture is the hog laying in the road as she walks to get the truck. Woods are beautiful right now.......
