LC Smith Hunter Arms 10 gauge

Friend of mine inherited said shotgun from his uncle. Says it's in VG to Excellent condition, and has asked me to help him gin up some information and possibly a price range.

I don't know much about Smiths, other than that 10 gauges are pretty uncommon.

I pointed him towards the collector's society and urged him to get the gun lettered.

I know value is highly dependent on which model/grade it is. He's going to send me some pictures and hopefully I can pin it down a little more narrowly.

When was the "FV" serial number prefix in use?

Sure tbat is not FW? FW denotes a featherweight frame. LC smith has a great collectors site. Just add dot org to lc smith.

He said FV, but he also said the serial number is hard to read.

I have him sending me pictures, and I also gave him the link to the collector's site.

Good folks there, he will get some help. They were a huge help when I acquired my Specialty trap. Turned out to be the 2nd oldest one known. By three serial numbers. It's fun to shoot trap with a gun that is darn near 100. It feels like it's ready for another 100 years.
