[Oliver Sudden]

Done with a nice kit, it’s fancy maple that I stained fairly dark and browned the barrel. Added a toe plate and patch box brass cap with some light carving. Also a brass tip for the ram rod. I did the color case Harding on the lock as well. A easy kit and very high quantity parts.

He gives a pretty fair piece of wood for the mid grade, and I color cased the lock for durability.

Oliver - you get John Seims' book on color case hardening? Where did you do yours?

I learned by reading the instructions that Brownell sent with the charcoal and oven I bought from them. Much experimenting and some bits and pieces of info picked up here and there. Made enough money doing things for other smiths to pay for the equipment. Then the internet came along and I see everyone is doing it. Now the occasional thing I do is in my garage for my own projects.
