Kelt-Tec P3AT broken takedown pin

I recently bought a Kel-Tec P3AT from a friend for really cheap, knowing the takedown pin was broke. It is sheared off at the head where you would normally grasp it for disassembly.

What's the best way to remove this? It seems like it may be a common issue to this design.

You might be able to remove the pins that hold the grip on to the frame. Then you'll be able to get at the pin easier.

I saw this on the Kel-Tec Owners Forum about a broken take-down pin for a PF-9

Hello, They will help you but like they just told me on the 17th of last month. " since your not the original owner, It will cost you 40.00 in labor and you are responsible for shipping both ways". I own a p11 and thus have not needed KT customer service :D But I hear it is the best in the industry. Hope it all works out for ya

If they do charge for someone other than the original owner maybe your friend can send it in.
Or you can use his name, just a thought.

Man that's a lot of money just to remove a pin. I got it for 50 bucks with 3 magazines. I'm probably just going to keep plugging along at getting it out.

Maybe I'll try removing the frame pins as well.

The trigger bar runs along the side of the frame you're thinking about drilling into. 3 pins and the hammer spring is all holds the grip to the frame.

I wonder if a small-headed nail super-glued to the end of the broken pin might be enough to drag the broken pin out of the frame? You can get several small tubes of super glue at a dollar store for $1... It would be worth a try. Some metals stick together when glued by that stuff.

Or if you can keep it still enough (so that it won't spin) to drill a small hole into the center of the pin and then use an "easy-out" to pull it out.

Someone with a welding unit could probably tack something onto the pin and use THAT tacked on piece to pull it out.

Whatever you do, order a new pin from Kel-Tec right way...

^^^ that's what I was thinking^^^, except using a paper clip. Or at least push it out of the way enough to get the slide off.

I am going with the drill into the small pin, and try to extract that way. Just need to get something small and some better drill bits.

How would removing the frame help when I can't get the slide off? This might be a better option, just don't see how it would work.

Taking the cover off the frame MIGHT give you access to the end of the pin so that it can be grabbed by a vise-grip type pliers and be pulled out.

Just so everyone knows I got it fixed. I took the frame pins out and the assembly pin came out very easily. All is well and reassembled with only a few curse words.

All in all, it was a good excuse for a project with my dad.
