Ithaca Serial Nbr Cutoff for Barrel Replacement

I see in another post here on a thread that has been closed, that there is some erroneous information.

The actual serial nbr cutoff is 855,000. This fact is independently verified by reading this page on Ithaca Guns website

http://www.ithacagun.com/ithacabarrels.html

a little over 1/3 down the page is the following text

Model 37s® with a serial number above 855,000 have interchangeable barrels (except for some Deerslayers), but often still require some custom fitting by our gunsmiths.

also on the Ithaca Gun website is a PDF that has been reprinted with the permission of Walt Snyder. It is the dates of manufacture of different Ithaca models.

You can find this off the main webpage, under the "Resources" heading.

Alternatively, you can simply click this link

I would suggest saving this PDF to your hard drive for possible future reference.

From an actual engineering perspective, prior to 855,000, the barrels had a "helical" thread. The thread was cut and the barrels screwed into the receiver. A "witness" mark was made on the bottom of the barrels and all subsequent machining (extractor cutouts, thread interrupts etc) and the brazing of the barrel lug were indexed from this mark.

After 855,000 the "threads" are actually just parallel "vees" and the barrels will actually rotate completely around.
