is the POF worth the extra $1k?

I think once you hit the $2k mark for an AR, you're paying more for the name than performance.

Not in .308 territory. 5.56 absolutely, in .308 it gets more complicated.

Depends on what you are going to do with it.

If you just want a .308, a DPMS will be fine.

If you want a "Duty Grade" weapon. You really only have LMT, Knights, Larue and SCAR to choose from.

Of those only the LMT, Knights and the SCAR have ever been used in combat.

You can get an 18" bbl on the Larue. My brother has one. It makes the gun very barrel heavy. Even in the Predatar Model.

If you are just using it for paper punching/hunting. Getting free floating and a good trigger from the factory is more important than anything else.

I started to go down that route, but they just weigh too much for me. Luckily I have a brother that likes to collect them, so I got to try before I bought. :D

What I found out:

If I am going to do paper punching, I don't want to get the crap kicked out of me and pay $.75 a round.

If I am going hunting, I don't want to lug all that extra weight around.

If I am going "tactical" I can do just as good or better at the range I would take shots with a lighter gun that can carry more ammo.

Of course YMMV.;)
