In order to protect our members and TFL from possible litigation, all members must abide by the following new rules:

    1. Copying and pasting entire articles from another site to TFL is strictly prohibited. The same applies to articles from print or other media, and to posting photographs taken of copyrighted pages or other media.

    2. Copyright law provides for “fair use” of portions of a copyrighted work. You can copy no more than a SINGLE paragraph from the article to your post (3 or 4 sentences at most).

    3. You must provide a link to the article along with the name of website. For example: ww.xxx.yyy/zzz (The Lower Thumbsuck Daily News).

    4. You must provide, in your own words, a brief summary of the article AND your reasons for believing it will be of interest to TFL members. Failure to do so may result in the thread being closed or your post being deleted as a “cut and paste drive by.”

    5. Photographs and other images are also copyrighted. "Hotlinking" of images (so that it appears in your message) from other sites is also prohibited unless you own rights to the image. If you wish to share an image, provide a clickable link to it.

Posts that do not follow these new guidelines will be altered or deleted by staff. Members who continue to violate this policy may lose their posting privileges at TFL.

Thank you for your cooperation and your participation in TFL, the leading online forum for firearms enthusiasts.

Is it just me?

Why doesn't the thread with the latest post go to the top of the list? Is this just me?
Or does it do that to everyone?

If you look between midnite and 3AM EST, you'll see that the post order is screwed up. This is a glitch in the software that we noted and reported to UBB. It will be fixed in the next release.

Here's my suspicion:
Our server is PST, our messages are ordered by EST. The software mistakenly orders by EST time and PST *DATE*. Therefore a post made at 1AM 12/2 is ordered as 1AM 12/1 (since the server is still showing the previous day). At 3AM, the PST server clicks over to 12/2 and the ordering automatically falls into place correctly.

Even during these three hours, you should be able to readily identify new posts by the color difference in the folder icon to the left of the threads.

Yep. It is as you said.
And yep...I usualy read round about 12-1 am.
And yep, I can tell by the colors.

They have a fix in the next ver of the software? Maby? Possibly? No chance?

This bug was fixed a short while ago, however, I'm sure Rich is waiting until the next major upgrade comes out before they upgrade the software here.

If you compare the style of UBB here on TheFiringline.com with BladeForums.com, you'll notice quite a few custom modifications, all of which have to be coded back in every time there is an upgrade. Rather than wasting time doing this for every minor bug fix, it's better to wait for a stablized version to come out, then customize away.

ANother little annoying thing is this:

I generally am online at all times when home, at least my computer is on all the time, so I leave my browser open and a window basically dedicated to TFL. As long as I reload the index page I get properly updated red targets when there are new posts. however, if I close my browser of use that navigation window to go to another site, when I go back to the splash page (www.the firingline.com) and click "enter" the targets get reset to the last time I came through the "front door" and of, course, after a day or two of having my computer on EVERYTHING lights up as if there are new messages, this also makes all the folders light up red. I guess it has somehting do to with the cookies, but I'm not sure I understand the difference between reloading the index page and re-entering the index page. -oh-well.

This is the first I've heard of this problem. Your symptoms will present in the case of an improper power down. But, if you properly exit your browser, the cookies should update and previously read posts should disappear.

What browser are you using?

Rob-
Try editing cookies.txt in your Netscape directory. Delete all references to The Firing Line. You were one of our early members and you may have the old (incorrect) site name "http://thefiringline.com" (without the "www").
Regardless, if you blow the cookies away and come int it'll start fresh and, hopefully, resolve the problem.

OK-
Zach has now installed Version 5.18. Hopefully this will resolve the ordering problem between Midnite and 3 AM.
I'd appreciate a confirm from whoever might be up at those times.
