IO Inc STG-2000 ... Any experience with these.

My son and I just ordered a couple of these American Made AK's.

The few articles I've read about them all seem to feel it's a very well made and accurate rifle. Supposedly, now completely manufactured in America and using a much better AR style match grade barrel.

Any experiences with these rifles good or bad?

Based loosly on the Eat German AK that was quickly phased out with the Reunification of Germany I believe-- A guy on one of my other forums bought one a couple of years ago, and it shot just as well as any other AK-- I wish I would have gotten one then, as they were around $300 or so-- this was a year or so before the panic...

The reviews I've read so far, are all very favorable, but I believe they're all for the NON USA Made ones.

They're still very affordable. Especially considering they're improved (hopefully) and now made in the USA.

Not sure on policy here for stating prices so I'll make it vague but, we paid less than $550 for each of ours through an FFL friend, all fees included. To me, that's a bargain when I consider I've got more money in the Scope on my AR15. Shoot, I have more money in my Ruger 10.22 (with modded stock, barrel, trigger,scope and other goodies attached of course)

You're going to have to go through an FFL who will order direct from http://www.royaltigerimports.com/ ... at least that's how ours is being gotten.

I'm pretty excited to test out one of these. Reviews I've read say these new USA AK's have all the reliability regardless of abuse of an AK with the accuracy of an AR ... in the 7.62 round. That's a great combo if true. :)

The pistol grip is very comfortable and I would like to buy one or two for my AKs. I'll have to check to see if they are sold as parts.

But that short sight radius will hurt long-range accuracy. OK stop laughing, sometimes people like to actually aim the AK and hit something.

Maybe these have improved. The older ones were fairly ratty Romanian parts guns.


In person the furniture had rough mold edges and was pretty chintzy. Again, maybe these newer ones are better although these pictures show pretty obvious Photoshop touchup.

I'll give an honest assessment when I get one. If it's junk I'll say so.

The FFL friend of ours seems to think they're great. (The USA built ones.)

The site radius is short, no doubt. But IMO it's more of a battle sight back up. We ordered side mount scope mounts and for long range will install appropriate scopes.

I typed "sight radius", and meant that.

A "site radius" might be the distance from one internet website to another, maybe? :p

And yeah, with some sort of optics the iron sights can be considered as only backup rifle sights. But many optics, on side mounts or other mounts, sit too high above the weapon. The balance is certainly not improved (it can feel top-heavy) and a shooter can find that the stock is now too low to rest the cheek against. Again, that makes for poor accuracy.

But mileages do vary and people do add cheek pieces on the stock. So this rifle still interests me.

:D I don't know what happened there. I wasn't trying to point out sight radius and ended up spelling it wrong myself. Don't take any offense. None was intended. ;)

Just saw one of these in person and I have to admit, they look nicer than the older models. Plastic no longer looks like shiny junk.

I just got an I.O. Inc AKM-47C last week.

Took it out of the box, field stripped it, cleaned it, lightly lubbed, re-assembled.

At the range I started with a box of WWB ammo and then shifted to some Russian HP ammo.

I was putting rounds into a 9" paper plate at 50 yards with little effort. If I took my time, I stayed within a 2" orange dot.

No jams, no failures to feed.

It's a nice tight little AK.

I've got two of them ... still waiting on the scope mounts that attach to the billet side mounts.

Here they are with aftermarket stocks already installed...

And here's one with the stock, grip replaced and I custom modified the foregrip with left and right picatinnys ...

I haven't gotten them to the range yet, but one thing I've found is zeroing in the iron sights, is NOT going to happen. They're so far off as to be impossible to zero in with my SLlite150 bore sighter ... Maybe at 100 yds they can be sighted in and hopefully sighting in a scope will not be a problem. But sighting them in at 25yds is NOT gonna happen.

The front sight cannot be screwed down far enough to zero. :confused:

i bought one of these in 2012 and could not be happier i get one inch groups at 100 yards with scope never ftf fte and the plastic mags fit tight no wobble oh and the ammo is russian steel,picked up my low profile scope mount at mississippi auto arms,i also changed out the bird cage that came with it for an ar style that i found online for 15 bucks and works great......
