Installing an AK-74 muzzle brake on a SLR

I'm thinking about installing an AK-74 type muzzle brake on my Arsenal SLR-96-MB.
It has the Bulgarian pinned-on brake, but I prefer the look of the 74 style brake.

How does the cheap Tapco-style pin-on AK-74 brake work in actual use?
It's held on by using a longer front sight support pin.
Does it actually work, or does it leak gas out the rear?
Does it stay put, or does it blow off and go by-by down range.

Since threading the muzzle requires an expensive threading kit, I really can't justify the cost for a one-time job.
Plus, once threaded, there's the problem of how to retain the brake so it won't unscrew.
The Arsenal front sight support isn't drilled for the locking pin.

Anyone used the pin-on AK-74 brake, if so, how did it work out?
