I bought a can for my x39's and realize its a bit fast for 223, but any chance at all it can be used for 55gr in my AR? Rifle powder is pretty scarce here.

Who makes your bullets? Call them and see if they can give you loading data.

ETA: I have several load manuals. Tell me whose bullets you're using and I might be able to help if I have the right one.

I have in front of me a IMR Handloaders Guide dated June 1995......the Guide states that loads listed are maximum, reduce by 10% and work up.

.223 Rem. & IMR4227.......test barrel was 24".

45 gr. bullet.........17.5 grs. @ 3085 fps

50 gr. bullet.........17.5 grs. @ 2975 fps

55 gr. bullet.........17.0 grs. @ 2810 fps

Many years ago I experimented with 4227 in the 223 Rem with a variety of bullets. I did not like the results and never used that powder again.

No IMR4227 for any bullet weight on Hodgdon's site. Likely because IMR4227 is best in magnum handgun cartridges and smaller cases than .223. Works like hot dam in .30 Carbine.
"...whose bullets..." Doesn't matter who made 'em. You load for the weight.

I tend to load to specific projectile manufacturer data if I have it, hence the desire to know whose bullets.
