Importing Purchased Firearms outside of the Country

Is anyone vaguely familiar with how to import purchased weapons from outside of the United States? In specific, I imagine they must be shipped to an FFL but what about unconstitutional serial numbering, etc.?

From what I understand it's very difficult to import a firearm into the USA. You can't just use an ffl. You must use someone that has the correct import licenses. Plus it has to have a sporting purpose. Surplus mil rifles are no longer importable from what I understand. There is an article in the latest SAR about importation of firearms. Apparantly, the rules were changed earlier this year without much notification.

I have done this. Contact the BATF. They have the paperwork for you to fill out. Allow yourself some months to do it. You must return the paperwork and they will send you back what is approved. Keep with your firearms upon return. Customs will want to see the paperwork, possibly the guns.
