I was wrong about the 686 snub!

In reponse to KyJim's purchase advice for aSW 686 Snub:

http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=282975

I stated that the 686 was not always stainless.

After further consulting numerous and various sources I would like to say loud and clear:

I WAS WRONG

KyJim: The 686 IS A STAINLESS GUN. Buy with confidence. That 686 will treat you well. I have one and love it.

To everyone else: my apologies for trusting one source as gospel before passing along information.

To Tamara: thanks for pointing me in other directions.

Now I have a 686 snub to buy that I hope is still for sale at my local.:)

The trick to look for is the first numeral in the model number. S&W uses the numeral 6 to designate stainless steel.

"S&W uses the numeral 6 to designate stainless steel."

Well, my model 60 is certainly SS, and so was my model 66. The rest of mine are blued steel.

I do respect you, RPSmith, for owning up to a mistake. It happens to all of us now and then. Many tuck their tail between their legs and hide. Real men and women (IMHO) aren't afraid to say "Oh, I messed up". Bully good for you!

As stated by MrTuffPaws:
Ah Grasshopper. 686 stainless. 586 blued.

As it was explained to me at the time, there was a loophole for the 2.5 686. Again, this is incorrect, though I was given a convincing argument at the time. Not to mention that the 686 snub I was looking at was nickel-plated. (I know, I couldn't believe it either!)

Skeeter1: I appreciate that.

I said I'd track it down. I was wrong, but wanted the chance to get it right.

That's why the TFL is a good forum.
