How to set crimp on Hornady 9mm dies

So I'm getting ready to reload my first batch ever. Going to do 100 rounds of 9mm using new Rem brass. Going through the instructions with the die it says to adjust the die down until you get the desired crimp....problem is I don't know how much I want.

I tried a few for practice and then pulled them and a few as I went further down showed a ring in the bullet when I pulled them where the case had been sort of swaged onto the bullet. How much is enough??? Thanks for the help

I only taper crimp my 9mms enough to straighten out the flare from the flaring die. Any more than that is not necessary. Neck tension from the case is what holds a 9mm bullet in place not the taper crimp.

If you taper crimp to much you will shrink the diameter of the bullet and it will become loose in the case. The case will spring back a .001"or so but the bullet will not. Once the diameter of the bullet has been reduced by the taper crimp die the bullet will stay that way and possibly set back from recoil.

Once you set it to just straighten out the flare on all your cases, the variances of the length of cases won't matter because the flaring die is affected by different lengths of the cases exactly the same way the taper crimp die is. So everything comes out even.
