I think you would be ok with two. Carry a strip or two for topping off when not on the clock.

I have four, but that is only because my used 686+ came with the reloaders when I bought them.

Beware, you can only load 6 rounds when shooting IDPA. It is the rule right now and it really sucks. I wrote to the directors of the IDPA to ask about it. The person who replied said that they were going to review that rule at the next meeting. That was in August and I have not heard anything about a change yet.
