How do you remove M1 Carbine rear sight?

Got a scope mount for my M1 (IAI), but it requies removal of rear sight. Is there anything holding it in dovetail, or just friction, and I can tap it out? Would it be epoxyed in?

GI carbine sights are press fit AND staked in place. Be VERY careful in driving it out as the receiver CAN be broken by too much force. The military used a screw jack-like device to press it out.

To remove: brace the receiver against a solid surface, and use a brass or nylon drift against the bottom side of the sights dovetail. Drive it out LEFT to right, by TAPPING the base not hammering it like a nail. BE CAREFUL.

Don't want to make it sound worse than it is, it's just I've had a couple of these come in with broken receivers in the sight area.
"I just tried to take the sight off so I could mount a scope, can you weld it back on?"
"What did you use?"
"A claw hammer and a nice steel punch". "My buddy held it while I wacked it, and this cheap gun just broke."
