I'm going in to the gun store next week to pick up my new Tikka Tactical in .223. They have a rail mounted on them for the scope rings. I'm still trying to decide what scope I want to put on it. Just for this example, let's go with the new Mueller Tac II. So I get the rifle and I order the scope. I pick out some brand of scope rings that I like. I really, really don't like the look of rifles with the scope WAY too high. IMO, I want that front objective bell right down on the barrel. If a piece of paper goes in and out with binding, that's my goal. But how can you get that kind of fit without just doing the trial and error thing? You can't just divide the objective diameter by two since the material holding the lenses adds thickness. And I need to take the rail into account plus the taper of the barrel....
Now you can see why I'm asking for a vet to step up and tell me how they figure it out! And if you want to recommend some particular rings, I'm listening!
TIA,
Gregg
