Anyone use this combination? I just loaded a batch using 4.0gr of 700x. This is my first time reloading .45acp and I haven't gotten out to shoot any yet. They dry cycle through the gun fine. Does anyone have any favorite loads for the XTP in .45acp?

I loaded some 230 gr XTPs to 775 fps in my S&W 625. That was too slow. Hornady says 800 fps is enough, but I don’t think so.

I shot a 160 lb hog with the load. One round hit the upper front leg and deformed, the other went through the chest cavity, missing bones. I could reload the 2nd one and shoot it again.

If you expect expansion, load them to at least 850. More is better.

The 230 xtp has been one of the most accurate 230 jacketed bullets have tried so far. Am using slower powdewr to 900 fps from 5 inch at 1.215 col.

Keep several hundred in reserve, not practice rounds.

You can get the speed up to around 900 fps using AA#7 powder. The manufacture has load data on line. Recoil will be heavier then what you normally would get firing factory range ammo. I have not been able to get 700X to reliably work in powder measures. I had to hand weight each load to make sure it was right. When done that way 700X was accurate but I feel it takes too much time to use it. It did work great for 12 guage skeet loads.

Thanks for the advice. I fired the batch through my RIA 1911a1 match. They cycled fine and were definately accurate. For now I'm going to keep using the 700x since that's what I have. It looks like I can clear the 850fps mark or at least get there with it.

WESHOOT2, The gun is my new hiking/backpacking gun so I guess the answer is mostly for self-defense.
