Homemade weapons becoming more prevalent

NEW YORK, June 13 (UPI) -- Police across the nation have recently been finding an alarming amount of homemade guns and weapons, Newsday reported.

The New York Police Department, during a narcotics raid in the Bronx, reportedly found a gun made out of a flashlight, the newspaper said. Sources told Newsday that disguised weapons allow drug dealers and other criminals to stay armed without arousing suspicion.

Police have said that the rise in homemade weapons is likely a response to the careful attention paid to finding and removing illegal guns.

Newsday reported that police in many other cities are also finding homemade weapons -- among some of the items recently confiscated was a rapid-fire pistol disguised as a cell phone.

The recent rise in homemade weaponry has sparked fears of an evolution to more sophisticated homemade guns and weapons, the newspaper said.

are you sure it wasnt one of these? just kidding, but is this story trying to imply that the new york gun laws are so good (i.e. strict) that criminals have to resort to overly elaberate craft projects for weapons?

It just goes to show that stricter laws only take s from law abiding citizens. The criminals will always find ways to get them.

You out of staters have no clue. In NY state we have no gun problems because we have had ,for about 100 years, the Sullivan Law .That has eliminated all gun problems !!

The obvious solution - ban everything. It's probable that these criminal elements will figure out how to makes guns out of newspapers, popcorn, animal feces and meatballs. The ONLY solution is to pressure our elected "representatives" to ban everything. Then we'll be safe.

Which was predictable. Duh!

Don't you think that at some point the anti-s start feeling REALLY stupid...?

They ban and ban and ban and crime goes up.

They ban and ban and ban and criminals STILL get or make guns....

Bans are lifted and crime goes down.

Sounds like that flashlight isn't homemade, but an ARES .410. I know some other company makes the cellphone gun; the 5, 6, 7, and 8 each activate different rounds (it has four .22 chambers and barrels).

Oh, what memories. I haven't heard anyone talk about zip guns for 50 years! And the Sullivan law? It's alright, officer. We're married.
