Hog number six for this season last night........

They didn't come out up until about 8:00pm last night, but boy when they did,,,it must have been 15 of them all at one time.

This one turned out away from the pack and gave me a nice clean shot at about 80 yards,,,and that was all it took,,,,,BOOM! He hit the ground and did the horizontal dirt dance.

Ill tell ya how tuff these hogs are. As you know I'm shooting the 454 Casull bullet in my Taurus. Well, its a bullet that is 260 grains of lead that travels 1,800 feet per second, and it didn't go all the way through this time. I hit this pig in the shoulder and there was no exit wound. On most shots it goes all the way through the hog. He was still alive when we walked up on him. Now that's tuff!

My buddy hunted a new stand we put up a few weeks ago in the very back of the club, but didn't see anything. We have pictures of hogs in the area,,but they didn't show up this time.

Sweet. I've only taken one hog with a pistol. That is something that I really want to do more of.

Ive killed plenty of hogs with the pistol. Im looking for my first deer at 100 yards or so. We just have to many hogs at the club Im at.

Capt Rick, I got a 338 Win Mag if you want to buy it. Thought about chasing those SC swamp vermin with it a time or two myself.

Damn good shot for 80 yards with a revolver. Must be a lot of recoil for that pistol scope to handle...

What kind of ammo were ya using? Hollow/ Flat/ jacketed/ or lead.

Just wondering cuz at that bullet weight and speed, maybe the projectile design would've made the difference between it passing completely through or it not passing through.

The pigs up at my parents property up north only come up at dusk and dawn.
It's just safer that way for em.

Been meaning to use my bow at some point when the hill sides start to get wetter:)

They're just tough no matter what caliber or projectile. I've hit some with a 30-06 and never exit, some run and you never find them. Some need three or four 30-06 bullets to finish off. And some just drop. The toughest animals we have Round here.

Love your bench the Capt. Is that for pistols only? I shoot mostly rifles on a bench, very seldom pistols. But love it.

I had only shot two with a pistol. Went to Marquez, Tx (about 14 miles away) and took a S&W model 1076, 10MM and shot one at about 40 and 70 yrds away. I usually shoot them with rifles. Got a big creek bottom and can see for a mile. sit in truck and shoot them when they come out. Have a blast plus good eating.

Sitting here having just come in from tossing the net at shrimp off the dock.....which was a waste of time, time I could of spent better eating dinner!

And sense I'm hungry all I can see there in the back of your truck is.....well, you know what I see, the best eating animal in the woods.

Darn nice job..............and now I'm going to find some food......

It is. Back when I first started hunting I needed something that could hold the ammo for my pistol without rattling around in my pocket.

Well,,, I cut a beer "Coozie" with scissors and used a hole punch to cut the holes for the bullets. Its just a quick fix I came up with before a long day of hog hunting.

It fits nice in your shirt pocket or the cargo pocket in your pants and makes no noise..

I'm sure a big company will come out with this idea and make some money off of me,,,so what......(Yall have fun with it)

It's the bullet design.
I shot a 140 lb. hog last week with my Ruger 44 special and the bullet exited. A 260gr SWC cast bullet going about 1,000 fps almost always exits.

Photos posted elsewhere, but we used Mag-tech 240 gr SJSP in my wife's Ruger 44 Magnum Carbine for both a Large (326 lb) hog 40 yards-(in the ear-out the eye) and a Neck-breaking Whitetail doe at 80 yards.

That Ruger Carbine in a steady hand does the job well.
