History of the .32 revolver rounds?

Hi All,

Can somebody provide a link or any information on the old .32 revolver rounds? Like the .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, the Colt offerings, etc.?

I'm mainly curious as to when the Long was adopted as a police round but I'm a history buff and any information will help. Were the police Longs loaded to higher pressures back then or was it basically the same round? When it was invented, was it the most powerful duty round of it's time?

I'm also curious as to how a round that was fit for duty can be lumped into the catagory of mouseguns and .25 acp nowadays (meaning an awful choice for a CCW). I know times have changed and all, but I'd still feel secure enough to pack one if I felt like it and would definately prefer it over the other mousegun calibers...

Thanks for any replies in advance,
EW
