Can someone with the 9mm version please have a look and see if this piece that fell out today is in fact part of the gun?

Look closely behind the firing pin, there's what appears to be a spot where that piece of metal would have been. The last round today didn't go off and the pin wouldn't reset without some serious racking of the slide.

If so, I need to contact HiPoint *again* and send it back for the 4th time.

missing...yep

Looks like a piece of your firing pin guide cylinder is missing...my guess is it that mangled piece you found. I just looked at my old ugly and my new tacti-ugly...yours sure looks like more of your firing pin is exposed than I see in mine. The firing pin guide/cylinder is forward (maybe part of?) the firing pin spring housing cylinder. I think yours lost a chunk right where the two meet. I've been lucky with mine...hundreds of rounds an not a glitch...hopefully I'll be able to say that after thousands!
