I just inspected a 1911 Government Model at my local shop that was marked Hi-Standard Manufacturing Co. It's brand new, no frills 1911 with a matte (parkerized) finish. The only "extra" was a relief cut on the ejection port. The overall quality looks decent with a good fit and the finish is generally good. The best part is that these were priced (here in the PRK) under $450.
Under the triggerguard it's stamped API-Pahrump, Nv/Made in Philippines.
This leads me to believe that these are made by Armscorp of the Philippines, the same company who produces Rock Island Armory .45's. Has anyone see/heard anything about the Hi-Standard guns or care to comment about their personal experiences with Rock Islands?
My thinking it that it'd make a good knock-about gun and perhaps one that could be kept in my earthquake kit without investing a lot.
