Hey George! About M-98 Turks.....

Do you rethread the receivers to standard M-98 thread when you rebarrel or just turn the barrel thread to fit? I'm debating the pros/cons of each.

BBBBill, while most Turkish mausers are large ring 98 receivers their barrel shanks are of the small ring variety. I've found that they should all be treated individually as shank diameters vary quite a bit. I have yet to run into one that had a large ring shank (1.100"-12tpi). I've seen the diameters run from .960" up to 1.087" so it's difficult to order a pre-threaded barrel for these. To answer your question I chase the threads in the receiver in the lathe using a 55deg threading bit and then turn and thread the individual shanks to fit. George
