Having believed I’ve purchased a true Sporter. I’d like some help getting more info about it. Serial number 1285597. It has all the correct markings, star on crown, barrel 12 27, serial number on bolt matches. Any way to fight me out more about it?

There are folks here who can give you answers.I'm not the guy,I just like the rifles.

Be a little patient. You posted in the proper place, but it seems this area gets a little less traffic

More photos, the barrel is marked 12 27 and the serial number matches the number on the bolt

Sight looks like a reverse mounted Lyman 57. Would have to see the other side to tell. Is the inside of the hole in the sight threaded for disc apertures?

Nice Rifle

Those era Springfield 03 NRA Sporters and Match Rifles were special. Hope yours works well. Nobody will believe you about the accuracy. It would be good to have a picture of the rear sight. The windage knob is on the wrong side for a 48.

Yep. A 48 is what I was actually thinking of. The knob orientation is why I wondered if the gunsmith had worked out how to mount it backward to keep it clear of the safety. Assuming the "peep" hole is threaded, it could be used as a ghost ring as-is or an aperture disc screwed in. Interesting arrangement.

The NRA just sent me a reply that the serial number matches and it’s a real NRA Sporter. The serial number on the rifle is etched on the bolt

Thanks, I’m still looking at maybe finding more info like original purchaser, but at least I know it’s legit. It also seems the value of it swings wildly.

Senior Moment

The sight is correct-senior moment. I would be great to have the view of the right side of the rifle. Thanks for sharing photos of your classic rifle.
