I’m planning on picking up a mil-spec 1911A1 (or reasonable facsimile thereof) and would like some advice from folks who know their 1911s. I’ve shot a match quality 1911 in the Corps, so I have some familiarity with the design.
I was planning on buying a Sistema, because the price is right, but I’m open to buying a new or used mil-spec-type 1911A1 if there's a good enough reason to do so.
What I’m looking for a no frills 1911A1:
-mil spec appearance (parkerized, with none of those forward serrations, target-type sights, picatinny rails, bells, whistles, keychains, harmonicas, doo-dads, gizmos or thingamawhatzysises)
-100% interchangeability of parts with mil spec
-100% reliable
-with decent accuracy (gge whiz accuracy not important)
-reasonable cost (under $500, if possible)
I'll use it for casual target shooting. I expect to shoot mainly ball through it, but maybe SWCs.
Is the Springfield Mil Spec worth the price differential vis-à-vis the Sistema?
And I don’t care if the slide rattles.
Thanks much.
Bruegger out.
