Help IDing Winchester 94

Hi, Folks. I’m puzzled over a Model 94 I picked up. The serial number indicates old, and overall the gun does LOOK aged, but the upper tang has no stamping and the barrel markings don't look right to me. I’m left wondering if this is some kind of WW II era gun, whether it’s got aftermarket parts, if someone rubbed off the stamping from the tang, and so on.
Any info appreciated.

Proofhouse says 1898.

I don't know why it lacks top tang markings.

My reference places it sometime in mid 1897.

I've seen that rifle before.
Was sold at auction in about March 2021 to someone that I know.
Either you're that person, or they sold it.

It is believed that both tangs were sanded, either for a thinner wrist, or to match a stock that had been sanded under-sized.
