I figured out what the total tax bill was for my wife and my self. The look on her face as I informed her that she got up every day just to pay taxes was priceless. Then I realized that because I make just a bit more than she does, it was really my entire paycheck going for the tax bill. It stopped being funny.

The real discouraging part is that most people just accept taxes as a part of living and don't ever stop to think about what is causing both parents to work and then fork over 40% of their income every year to the government. An incremental brainwashing has taken place.
