Has anyone ever hand lapped a barrel?

I have a match grade barrel that picks up copper like mad. I am sure it is due to the rough surface finish in the bore. So I was wondering if anyone might know the process to hand lapping a barrel. This is a 0.40 diameter pistol barrel so fire lapping is out, unless tubs has recently started pistol bullets.
Thanks FTH.

The way I hand lap is to slug the barrel and then use the slug for lapping. I screw the slug on the end of a cleaning rod and coat it with oil and lapping compound. 220 grit then 320 and finish with 400 grit. Maybe 20 times through the bore for each grit depending on the roughness of the bore.

Dear Sir:
If this is a "match" grade bbl. no lapping should be necessary. I'd return it to the manufacturer.

It would also be a good idea to read up on bore leading and lapping. "JacketedPerformance with Cast Bullets" by Veral Smith and Marshal Stanton's book from Beartooth Bullets are both very good resources.
