Handloads for a Remington PSS 308

Anyone handloading for a Remington 700 PSS 308 with a 1:12 twist? If so would you care to share your info? I don't want to go heavier then 180 grain bullet. Would like to get the rifle down to .5 MOA if possible. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

I have a Remington 308 VS, seems to do good with 175 Sierra in WW cases with 43 grains of Varget. My Palma rifle I loaded 45 grains, so a little on the light side, but shoots well.

"...down to .5 MOA if possible..." If you want to enhance the chances, you must load using match grade bullets, only. Think 155, 168 or 175 grain match grade bullets. I'd use IMR4064 or Varget.

How far you planning to shoot? Inside of 500 yards I like 155 gr Lapua Scenar bullets. They are reasonably priced, very accurate and with a good BC for the weight.

At longer ranges a heavier 175-180 gr bullet would be a better option. I like the 178 gr Hornady ELD bullets.

I shoot both of those in my 308's with a near max load of Varget and get Sub MOA for 3 shots in 4 different rifles. I have twists of 10, 11,and 12 depending on the rifle and they all shoot those bullets equally well.

I'm a hunter, not a target shooter. I could probably tweak my loads and get near .5 MOA, but I average about .75. Close enough for me.

Last summer I shot quite a bit of 308 in my Remington 700 VSSF which I did quite a bit of truing on. I went back to trying AA2495 in the bolt gun as I like it in my M1A and AR 10 guns. Using a 1:12 twist I had groups as tight as 0.4" at the hundred yard line using both Sierra Matck King 168 grain and 180 grain bullets. With the 168 grain bullets I was at 41 grains of AA2495 for the bolt gun. Not to say that will work for you. I also do not use that hot of a load in my M1A or AR10 guns. Anyway I plan to pick up this summer where I left off. Before I forget I was using CCI BR2 primers but only because I had a bunch of them.

Just so you should know, this is going to involve a lot of load development on your part. I would suggest you start by picking the match bullet you intend to use, then do your load development work with the following powders: RL15, Varget, and IMR4064. Vary your test charge weights in .3 grain increments. Also, quality brass is more important than most people realize, and Lapua is the gold standard. Good luck.

Thought I would get back here to post my outcome on loading for this 308. Before I go on again I want to thank everyone for their input on this. I was using Nosler 165 grain Ballistic Tip bullets I tried 4064 & 4895 wasn't having success. Now I'm not totally green to handloading been doing it since 1970 so I already knew 4064 was a good choice for 308 as I know several shooters that have great success with it. I also know that flat base bullets and compressed powder charges have a tendency to shoot smaller groups, it proved true again this time. I ended up loading 46 grains of 4064 topping it off with Speer 150 grain bullet #2023, granted this isn't the highest BC bullet coming in at .389 but it gave me a 0.600 group. Not quite my goal of 0.500 but darn close. This rifle belongs to my oldest Grandson so I'm trying to save him some money by not having to buy a lot of different components to try. He's thinking of buying a new rifle in 6CM and in my opinion he would be better off spending his money that way, instead of trying to make a bug hole shooter out his 308.
