Handled a Ruger 57 today. Surprised how light it was. I was also able to do a quick side-by-side comparison of it and the FN Five-SeveN.

Notables:

FN is slightly heavier, even though it has a steel reinforced polymer slide.

Ruger slide is all metal with a lightening cut towards the front sight.

Ruger magazines are metal and dimensionally smaller than FN.

Ruger grip is slightly smaller than FN, probably due to the smaller magazine.

Both come with 20rd mags.

It's SA, hammer fired. I've handled one at a LGS, and was impressed. Very light, sights were nice, easy to pick up and I really liked the trigger pull.

AFAIK it does not have a mag disconnect.

I will buy one as soon as I can find one not spoken for. BTW, this particular store is asking $720, just under MSRP.

I take it the Ruger 5.7 has good ergos there OP?
The grip is big. There's no way around that. Not much bigger than a 45 caliber gun but I don't think people with small hands would like it. I have medium-large hands and find it comfortable. I also don't get overworked over a "perfect" grip since I shoot a wide variety of pistols. If you only ever shoot 1911s or Glocks or whatever, it's going to feel weird. Possibly awkward to those who tend to stay in the same camp forever.

Grip is maybe similar to a CZ-52 due to the length of the grip vs. width if that makes sense.
