H&R Sportster .17hmr

Looking to get my first long gun and our LGS has a good deal on an H&R Sportster in .17hmr. Knowing very little about rifles, would this make a good first one? I know it is a single shot which I like the idea of, but I guess I'm asking if they are a well made rifle. One thing I noticed was how much heavier it is compared to the wife's 10/22. I figured I would surely get a bipod for it due to the extra weight. Are there any reasons I should not consider this firearm as a first rifle? I see the prices of .17hmr and I'm ok with that. I figure being a single shot I would shoot less than a semi-auto .22lr. anyway. I have looked up reviews and only found a few, the few I did find it seems like a good rifle. Please give me your opinions. Thanks.
