gun kits

About the closest you'll get to a kit handgun is buying a 1911 frame and going from there. Slide, sights, barrels, components, grips can be had according to your fancy and your pocketbook. The rifle equivalent would be an AR-15 type rifle. The frames for either you'll have to buy from an FFL dealer and the rest you can mail order.

Check our link to the AR15 forum for more info on AR-15 type kits.

The AR 15 Kit is a lot of fun... The thing is like a lego set... built it into what ever your heart fancys.
My Bushmaster was built up as a "Kit" gun. I recomend going that route. You can get less expensive Kits from the "Shotgun News" All different kinds of kits pretty cheap, with all the parts you need to build the gun except the stripped Lower Reciever - that has to be bought through an FFL holder.
My Kit is 100% reliable, and Highly accurate.
Cost of a new AR is 750 to 1600 bucks depending on all the stuff you want. The Kit will lower your bottom line to about 500 Bucks - and your add ons will be a lot less too.

Just my $.02 worth.
