Grips for a 1917 Colt Revolver

A question, if you will.....

I just got a replacement set of grips for a Colt 1917 New Service. They fit well, and the revolver feels much better! Thing is, they're too small for me--as in too thin! Plus, they're made fo plastic and kinda flimsy.

Will Python grips fit that New Service? I want some good hand filling grips for this revolver. And, I'll post some pics for all--this thing would make a GREAT carry revolver. Yes, it has been altered--but it looks sweet!

No, Python grips will NOT fit.
The only grips that will fit the Colt 1917 are grips made for the Colt New Service, which the 1917 is a version of.

About the only way to get new grips for your 1917 will be to have a set custom made, since most grip makers have long since dropped them from their lines.

With the proviso that I know nothing about them except seeing their ad in SGN, a company called N.C. Ordnance, PO Box 3254, Wilson, N.C. 27895-3254 (www.gungrip.com, phone 252-237-2440) advertises walnut grips for the Colt and S&W 1917 models, Victory Model, Colt 1892, Luger, BHP, and Nambu type 14. The price for the Colt 1917 grips is $65.

My Colt New Service has a pair of Pachmayer grips on it. I got them about 22 years ago. Checking around at gunshows for vendors with a lot of Pachmayer stuff might turn up something.

My goof. Somehow, I thought Powderman was looking for original type grips.

I will read the posting. I will read the posting. I will....

I see that Pachmayer makes grips for Colt 'LONG, SQUARE BUTT "D" FRAME (OLDER LARGE FRAME 1940-1971)'

Would those work?
