good wieght for .357 loads

just bought a .357, and am gonna reload it.. what would be an appropriate weight to use for cast boolits it in for target practice? im looking at one thats 158grn, is that too much?

for punching paper i like a 148 gr wadcutter& 3grs. of clays in a 357 case .

for hunting , wadcutters for small game , 358156hps 357446 swc & 358429swc . with a dose of 2400 or h110 will handle the rest.

can`t help much on jacketed stuff , have`nt shot one in my revolvers since `83 or so, but if i was i`d check out Longdayjakes bullets over on the THR for sale forum , people give em good reviews!!!

A 158gr bullet in a 357 Magnum is an excellent bullet for target shooting. It can be loaded nice and mellow, or it can be driven hard.

The 158gr SWC is my favorite bullet for the 357.

would the 158 grain work ok with .38spl or would that be too heavy for simple target shooting

You can't go wrong with 158 gr bullets for 38 Special. It was the standard service revolver load for almost a century. Also, if you don't have adjustable sights, many revolvers were regulated for 158 gr bullets for POI

I have a saco 148 double end wc I use for practice and target (Bullseye in my Model 52 smith and practice in my 642 pocket pistol.

For my carry loads and my 357s I cast lvmans 358477 150 grn SWC. The impact the same as my 148 WCs so its handy, especially in a fix sight gun.

If one is gonna shoot 148s for practice, then I'd recommend the 358477 Bullet.
