Good Price on Marlin 1895GS?

Local dealer has a Marlin 1895GS in stainless steel. Looks almost new.

Asking $500.

Good price?

Is stainless worth it?

I intend this to be my only hunting rifle and will plink with it too.

Advise?

Sounds a bit high for a new 1895GS, much less a used one. I'd been quoted in the $475.00 range for a new 1895GS in .45-70 about a week ago.

I went back and reviewed my quote. Here is the pricing:

Marlin Action Guide Gun in 45/70 Government
1895G Ported Guide Gun $439.95
1895GS Ported Guide Gun Stainless $533.95

Given this, $500.00 is still pretty high. Used, I'd do it for the price of the blued model.

Turns out its NIB.

The cheapest I could find around here was $490.

May talk to the owner about it.

I think I paid about $420 a year ago for the blued version (new) at a local dealer. I looked for the receipt but couldn't find it. Sorry I can't be more specific.
