Good load for Montana Bullet Works .44 280 gr.

Looking and making my Mountain Revolver a hunter.

I do NOT want super power overloads!

I see Montana Bullet Works makes a 280 gr LBT gas checked slug and Matt's Bullets has a 275 gr SWCHP that is gas checked to.

I'm thinking 1000 fps from the 4 inch barrel and no more!

I say that cause I shot 240s today with 9.2 gr of Unique (about 1000 fps) and it's manageable but I sure don't want 240s at 1200!

Any idea on a good load.. Say Unique or something else for power to give me soft (well as soft as a .44 at 1000 fps can give) recoil.

Thanks,

8.5 to 9.0 grains of W231 or HP-38 will give you the same velocity, and burn a little cleaner than the Unique loads will. A newer powder that I like very much for those mid-range 44 loads is Silhouette. 12.0 grains under a 265 gr SWC gives me about 1150 fps and great accuracy. 10-11 grains should do nicely for the 240 gr at 1,000.
