Good commander hammer for a 1911R1?

Hey everyone, I bought a Remington R1 about 7 months ago. I have since fired 500 rounds through it. (Shot 175 rounds yesterday). As anyone with a 1911 can probably figure, when I got done at the range, I had literally taken chunks out of my hand. I am now painfully aware of how much I need a Commander style hammer and possibly a beavertail grip safety. My question is this, if I get a commander hammer, do I have to get a beavertail grip safety, or are there some hammers that go well with the normal grip safety? What are some good hammers for this. I'm hoping not to spend a fortune however. Any possible suggestions? Thanks.

I learned that same lesson a good number of years ago, and I won't own a modern 1911-style pistol without a beaver-tail grip safety.

You could just shorten the hammer-spur on your R1 and re-blue.
