Glock Recoil Spring Assembly Question?

I have a question about the Recoil Spring Assembly unit on my Glock 19. Should the recoil spring guide and recoil spring all be one piece (captive assembly) or should the spring be separate from the guide?
Mine is two pieces. Is this normal?

Normal. Glocks originally had a two-piece recoil spring assembly, as you describe. In the early 1990s they changed to the captured version that are on today's Glocks.
