Glock Gen 4 9mm survey

I want to purchase a Gen 4 9mm Glock but I'm worried about the reliability reports I've seen. My Gen 4 G22 has been flawless. I'd like to hear from those of you who own a Gen 4 9mm, specifically it's reliability. I've heard that Glock worked out the bugs.

I have a gen4 G17. I had some problems with the first magazine run through the gun and none since.

I have the newer recoil spring in mine. No issues with it either.

I have all 4 Gen4 9mm Glocks. The 19 is the only Glock I've ever owned with problems. It's at Smyrna now for the 3rd time. That said, the other 3 have been awesome.

My Gen4 G19 has 6,000+ rounds through it with no problems whatsoever. All original parts, nothing aftermarket.

I also have a trouble free Gen4 G17, but the round count is still under a thousand.

Well, it stovepiped at first. Then, the ejection waa straight to the face regardless of shooter/ammo. Then, it came back and was much worse.

I'm on my phone now so I can't post videos, but some members here are also subscribers to my youtube page; maybe they can post them so everyone can see the evidence...

All that said, I own 19 Glocks and that's the only one that has ever had issues of any kind. Also, Glocks customer service has been great. They've paid shipping every time and my guess is they'll just send me a new gun this time. I'll post an update when I get the gun back.

Thanks for info. I would rather get a Gen 4. There are a couple of Gen 3 9mms I could purchase but I really like the Gen 4 grip without a backstrap. Also I don't experience slide bite with the Gen 4 grip.

I have a Gen4 17 with 1500+ rounds and a Gen4 26 with around 600 rounds through it. Neither gun has ever malfunctioned. I have a older Gen4 23 that had the older recoil assembly in it. I took advantage of getting the free updated recoil assembly from glock, even though the old recoil assembly had over 2000 rounds on it and I only had a single type 1 malfunction (stove pipe) at around 300 rounds. My experience with the current gen4's are that they are extremely reliable. The G17 I have taken to Frontsight twice, and it's been covered in dirt and dust and 600 rounds on the last day and it keeps performing flawlessly.

First run 17 with the original spring was flawless. Sold it for a 26 gen 4. It was also flawless. Sold it too. I know some people never sell anything, but I can't afford to have all the things I want nowadays. :(

My G17 had a problem occasionally stovepiping; the ejector needed replacement. Since there's a Glock Armorer at my LGS, he got one from Glock and we installed it together so I could see what was involved. Simple operation, and no charge. Details here.

Since then, it's run flawlessly. I'm very pleased with it, and enjoy shooting it at GSSF events.

My Gen4 G17 had some reliability (feed/eject) issues, but Glock sent me their recoil spring replacement, and I've had no trouble since (even though I've yet to clean it :D).

If you were going to purchase a new Glock in 9mm tomorrow what would you buy, Gen 3 or Gen 4. Also when using the Gen 4s do you go without a backstrap or use the medium and turn it into a Gen 3 grip? My Gen4 22 gives me slide bite with the medium backstrap and I'm worried about slide bite if I go with a Gen 3.

Back on a computer...

Here's the video of my wife shooting the gun after the first time back from the factory (Blazer ammo, properly cleaned/lubricated):

Here's her shooting it after the 2nd time back from the factory (same ammo, gun/shooter/mag/ect...):

I would (and have) buy a Gen 3. Not because I don't trust the Gen4s but I prefer the Gen3 grips with grip tape to to the Gen4 grips. I use the medium backstraps on my Gen4s FWIW....
