thats it, but i cant contact the company. anyone out there have a maker that has something similar? what im looking for is aperature sights, striper clip feeding, and in .308 win. 16-19" barrel, synthetic stock prefered, but not mandatory and finally enough room to add a scout mount, if its no included. i would like a new production rifle, and keep the cost under $800 all included. i guess i could try on my own stephens action, but i doubt that i could get all that custom work for under $500

thanks for any help

Get an M48 mauser and hire a gunsmith to build what you want on that action. http://www.skaggsgunsmithing.com/pricing.shtml

The action already comes with a stripper clip guide and Turk stripper clips work with 308 ammo, the action already comes with a thumb cut on the left side so that's less work for the gunsmith, all you need is the bolt bent ($40), new barrel installed and chambered ($55), and add the sights you want (you'll have to work that out with the 'smith) but for a 100 dollar rifle and 95 dollars worth of work you are already halfway there. All you need then is a synthetic stock (ATI makes a fairly decent one) and you are set, not including whatever you spend on the sights.

Just what I would do for a custom scout/truck gun on the cheap.

I got a LNIB, used, DPMS AP4 for under $800. Be patient and keep checking gunbroker, gunsamerica and your local firearms boards/forums and I'm sure you can do the same.

he got back to me today, thanks everyone for the help. i dont want an ar style. ill keep my ar's in 5.56 thanks, unless its an sr25. but if i could find one of those for 800 i wouldnt be worried about it. the mauser is a workable idea, but the ati scout rifle stock is no good if you expect to use irons, as far as i can tell.
