I'd like to do a poll of the people who post here (don't know how to do a poll though). If somebody can set one up... I'd like to see one reflecting service (USMC, USN, Army, ASAF etc.) plus MOS and the time frame and duty station etc. Thanks

Might get shut down if you don't put some sort of gun / rifle flavor to it ... like, "and what did you qualify on?"

Me - USN CTM, M14, 1911

No, Im not trying to pass myself off as special forces. I bought the MP5 for $400 off the local market because my issued M16A2 was damn near impossible to shoulder and fire from the front seat of an M997 4 litter field ambulance, which was my primary vehicle.

AF. Only qualified on junky old 60's M16's with triangular guards and no forward assist after everyone else was using those features. Practiced with a Ruger .22 to help make better scores. No money for an AR clone and I did not like them then, anyway.

Not in the military guys, sorry, But I do have a question for you all regarding dangerwings post:

Does the military in fact, allow you to field your own weapon if you chose? Or is there a 'list' of approved alternative firearms you are allowed to use? If the alternative weapon is still in NATO calibre (such as dangerwings MP5) can you just go to the armory and pick up a bunch of 9mm rounds to load up the mags with?

SteelJM1, not sure if I can answer for everyone, but my experience is that we are ONLY allowed to carry our issued weapons. If we are even found with civilian weapons we are automatically subject to punishment. We are NOT allowed to by weapons from the local economy and we are not allowed to bring personal firearms from home.

Danzig: My best friend, a Marine and LAV-25 gunner (honorably discharges in four days) picked up an AK underfolder to have with him in the turret. His reason was if he was required to get up a firearm quickly he would rather do it with a 16 inch barrel than 20 inch A3 with a stock. If he had longer shots they would have used the on-board weapons anyway.

Have qualified on M4, M16, M9, M203, MK19, M2, M240B, and AT4, but I can usually be found holding an M249.
