Foam for gun case... Where to find...

Dad wants to build a custom box for his Henry .22 Carbine he just got...

Asked me where to find the black egg crate foam found in hard cases...

If you just want the plain foam most industrial supply places will have it. Try McMaster-Carr, Grainger, HD Supply or maybe the local hardware store.

You can get the egg-shell kind or pluck foam from www.foamerica.com (they sell replacement foam for Pelican).

Brent - you might find it cheaper to buy a cheap long gun case with that foam and just cut piece or two that fits and works

I realize you just want basic egg crate foam, but if anyone ever wants custom cut foam, here is a place that will do one-off jobs (for a price).

He has shopped for a "proper" size soft or hard case for the little bugger...

He is into using "luan" plywood and such so he figures he can make a sharp box for a price fair to him instead...

Many fabric stores sell egg crate foam as well.

If you build a case and line it with foam DO NOT use the case for storage. Open cell foam will absorb and hold moisture and has been known to cause bad rusting on a lot of nice guns. A foam lined case should be used for tramporting guns only. When you get where you're going, get it out of that foam.
