Flame throwing primers?

Wisdom amongst competition revolver shooters with ultra light main springs in their revolvers is that Federal is the primer of choice for dependable ignition--at least of the primer.

What about the other side? It seems that a healthy flame would be a good thing in a big half empty .38 spl case. Any information on this?

DEVIATIONS

I use CCI or Federal primers, or sometimes R-P and W-W.

What was your question?

If operating in extreme cold environment I use Magnum primers.

They all make a healthy flame, but Federal's cup material responds more reliably to light strikes.
