fire forming question

I am thinking of fire forming some 303 Brit brass to 410. Question is, once I add my 8gr of Herco and fill it with cream o wheat cereal, what should I use to cap off the brass? Will a thin layer of wax work? anyone have any better ideas? I'm open to all ideas.

Hey Howlnmad,

In the past 50 years, I have only fireformed less than a dozen different calibers, so I am no expert on the matter. To fireform rifle brass, however, I usually loaded a squib load of a faster powder like 2400, placed some kapok on top of the powder to hold it in place, and then topped it off by loading a light cast bullet to build enough pressure to form the case. Since you are fireforming for .410, I would think a light weight cast bullet on a aquib load should work as well.

Best wishes,

When I formed .375win from .30-30 I filled with corn meal over 5gr or so of W231 and plugged the neck with bar soap. Worked fine for me. Smells like cornbread when you fire them into the ground out in front of you.
