I finally received my Python back from Colt with a new Royal Blue finish. I would have posted some pics sooner, but I had to buy another camera (another story ). I am very happy with the results.
Jlundy, I'll admit I'm jealous. Be sure and keep the paperwork from the factory. Is she a shooter or a safe queen? I came across a very neglected python a few months ago. The price reflected the condition (butchered hammer spur, and all kinds of deep scratches), so I passed without even asking to give it a proper lookover.
I wouldn't worry about that spot. I don't think anyone other than me will notice it.
Thanks for the info Jhundy. I'd say that was money well spent! I have a reblued Colt 1903 & my dad has a reblued Woodsman. They were purchased already reblued and look terrific too. You are a great photographer BTW.
Somebody should mention that not all guns with worn finishes should be reblued. Old SAAs for example will lose too much collector value.
Do people consider the Colt factory Python reblue equal to the original finish?
I've got a 2 1/2" Python that I love, and I don't own any safe queens so everything gets used, carried and shot. I'll shoot that Colt much happier if I know I can duplicate the finish when it wears.
Thanks, that's good to know. I carry and shoot my Python (carefully) quite a bit and I hope to be able to refinish it as good as original when the time comes.
Great to see that at least Colt's Custom Shop is still alive and well and capable of fine work!
I'm looking for what will be my 3rd Python but trying to find one that has not been 'butchered' by so-called 'gunsmiths' is proving harder than I had hoped, especially considering the small number of Colt guns which made it 'Downunder'
In the meantime I have started looking at other Colt 20th Century revolvers to add to my 'Advanced Collectors Licence'.
Darrentxs,
Thanks for the compliment, but I went to the "Trial and Error" Insititute of Photography. I do take alot of crime scene photos and have reached the dangerous to myself and others level. I take the gun photos in my wife's hutch. She is not amused when I take out all of her treasures to take pics of guns! The Python is a shooter, although I don't shoot it as much as my others.
Not by a long shot! Find a 50s or 60s model safe queen to compare and you will see the difference. The master smiths who built and finished those guns were true artisans.
Don't cha jus' luv that Python porno??
Beautiful revolver. I sold the one I had years ago and have regretted it ever since.
What was Colt thinking when they discontinued this model?
Hang on to that piece. It is a true modern legend.
