Finally Gave In

OK, I finally gave in... Most stores I've been too don't have .22 LRs, .22 magnums are a pipe dream.

I found one store that had acquired some .22 magnums off of another customer and I was lucky enough to get a couple of hundred rounds. I probably have driven at least a 150 miles to different stores in search of the illusive long rifle only to find a couple that had them and they had a 50 round limit.

I just bought a 500 round brick off of Gun Broker, cost plus shipping was $85.00. Although, the price bites - at $3.35 per gallon of gas, it's still probably cheaper than driving around and only finding a few rounds here and there.

I will remember these days well when I vote in 2014.

Somewhere around here there is a reloading forum. I stopped for years but had about 3,000 bullets and primers and powder that sat for 20 years. Tested a few, worked fine. For awhile I had the range to myself, maybe one other guy. I had forgotten how much fun it is to reload. It has a zen quality to it. I work 100 rounds into my PT.Trying to make a lifetime supply in a day is not as much fun.

Be patient. I found some 22lr at walmart the other day. It lasted until at least 9am as there were a few boxes left when I left.

Here's the deal in case you don't know. Walmart is constantly getting 22lr in stock. I mean almost weekly. The problem is that they changed the rules a few months ago an only put ammo out in the morning at 7am give or take. Walmart has an app that tell us when this stuff is in stock. I see it in stock and it will be on the shelves the next morning. Now everyone has this figured out and with a 25 dollar brick bringing 85 dollars folks are lining up to buy there three boxes.

At first you had to get there at 5am to have a shot. It got as early as 2am at my walmart. Guys sleeping in the isles.

Just like drugs, if we stop paying the high price the incentive will dissappear and the time will get closer to 7am very quickly. I've already begun to see 223 and 9mm regularly. Both were like 22lr months ago.

Hope this helps.

Also if you are crazy enough to pay 75 bucks a brick, i'll sell mine. PM me.

LOL... I gave in this time because I purchased two .22 LR pistols (one for my wife and one for myself) a couple of weeks ago and then realized I could not even find ammo locally to shoot them. I bought this brick because the gas I was burning trying to find ammo was eating up any savings I might have lucked into. Most stores I have been too are saying they are getting zero shipments. A couple that has it, have bought them off of customers and like I posted, are limiting it to 50 round sales, at 2-3 times what it should be selling for.

I will not be a .22 LR collector at these prices.

I had 17,000 rounds before this drought. I sold around 10,000 to people begging me to bone them. I felt horrible but didn't want to sell my stash. The price got so high that I had to. They were happy and I was happy.

I have since replaced maybe 2000 of those.

This is only temporary so collect away. When things stabilize buy more than you need so you can ride any future storms. I had so many only because of the last drought when Obama took office. I said no more.
