Feinwerkbau P8X

Last fall I bought an air compressed pistol in order to hone my skills at one handed precision shooting at 10 m during the winter season, in preparation for the summer season with a .22 lr pistol at 25 and 50 m. Quite a challenge since I’ve spent the last 34 years shooting two handed.

Found a good deal on a barely used German Feinwerkbau P8X. Still those things are expensive at $ 1300 (instead of $ 2000 new).

10 m doesn’t sound like much, but the target is tiny. And the hand keeps moving.

Also did my first competition in early January. 40 shots in 50 minutes on electronic targets. That didn’t go too well. It’s a learning curve. There’s a ton of adjustable parameters, grip angle, line of sight, sight width, weights etc.. Confusing for a guy who shot a ton of service pistols and revolvers

Another beautiful pistol! Is the cylinder replaced or refilled? The adjustments you mentioned...are they part of changing stages in competition, or to improve the performance of the shooter?

It's all for shooter fit/comfort.

I have an FWB 65MkII but I'm such a hack I had to put sport grips on it. The match grips were just too much for me to deal with. Too much time spent holding service pistol type grips.

These guns will surely humble a shooter. There simply are no excuses. They are capable of putting every shot right on top of the other at competition distances. The sights are clear and adjustable in just about every way. The trigger is so light you practically just think to fire a shot. When you miss there's nothing left to blame... :D

You refill the canister

Indeed you want the pistol to sit in your hand as comfortably and naturally as possible. Then you adjust the trigger position, the line of sight, the width of both sights to your liking etc..

It is a very challenging discipline indeed

10m air pistol is NO JOKE. Air rifle either. As powder burners we tend to scoff at something like 10m but let me tell you the folks who shoot 10m air are some of the best shooters around and that is using some amazing equipment. I know this because I am…………..not even remotely in the same hemisphere of skill as these folks….;).

Awesome pistol, nice work. Enjoy it.

The air cylinders are re-pressurized as needed using specialized compressors, pumps or other air tanks. They are pressurized far beyond a “shop compressor” in the realm of 2000-4500 PSI.

Mechanically that pistol with good ammo will literally one hole shot after shot after shot and so on. The skill needed to do that as a shooter is pretty immense.

It is a very challenging discipline indeed
That is an understatement. :)

It is so demanding that unlike most shooting, I find it somewhat stressful. I will plink with my 65 MkII and I enjoy that, but I rarely try to shoot a serious string for score one-handed. It's hard to explain, because I don't mind spending hours shooting string after string at 25yrds with a service pistol trying to get the best possible group, but there's something different about the match air pistol.

Perhaps it is the constant reminder of just how much room for improvement there is and how much work it will be to achieve it! :D

It’s funny you should say that. I am also far less demanding when I shoot my powder burners yet when I bench my air guns I am extremely demanding of good groups. I want 10 under a dime all the time at 20-25 yards and I am not happy when I don’t achieve that. It’s like a totally different discipline to me.

I bought a Weihrauch HW30 in 177 back in 2020 to still shoot during the lockdown. Air guns are no joke, especially the compressed air ones, some people even hunt with them. Looks like you got a sweet shooting pistol.

I set up a simple 10 m range in the front yard, shooting from inside the garage
